We use The
Empowering Writer's program at Osgood and Deer Hill to teach the genres of writing: narrative and expository. Opinion writing is based on same organizational structure as expository. The narrative diamond and the expository pillar (pictured below)
help students visualize the structure of writing and are posted in classrooms. Students are encouraged to generate their own graphic organizers that match their particular purpose.
